Several months before his death he accepted a position with the New York State Agricultural Department with headquarters near New York City. When he became ill, he went to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Alfred Augus.

Robert B. appears in the 1887 Chicago city directory as a draughtsman, located at #26, 226 La Salle and residing in Woodlawn. By the 1895 directory, he is called an architect, at #812, 21 Quincy and residing at 5817 Rasalle Ct. In 1896, he is at the same business address, but living at 425 LaSalle. He is last listed in Chicago in the 1902 directory where he is located at 2417 Hermitage; which doesn't say whether this is a business or residence address. An 1892 voting record gives his address as 94 37th St., Ward 4, Precinct 12, born in NY, living at the present address for 18 months, and in the County and State for 8 years.
The Death Certificate gives his birth and death dates, as well as his birth state of New York. His wife's name is indicated by the initials M. C. It is known that Robert designed at least one church in Fresno. This information comes from the files at the Los Angeles City Library.
His obituary appeared in A Guide to Historic Homes in Fresno as as follows:"Robert Hotchin was born in New York on July 10, 1859. Before settling in Fresno, California, in 1904, Hotchkin practiced architecture in Chicago. In Fresno he affiliated with McDougall Bros., a pioneer California architecture firm that maintained its principal office in San Francisco at that time. After the 1906 earthquake, McDougall Bros. closed its Fresno office to concentrate on a large backlog of work associated with the reconstruction of San Francisco. Hotchkin also relocated to the Bay Area to work for B. G. McDougall. In 1912, Hotchkin was awarded his licence to practice architecture in California. Before returning to Fresno the following year, he managed construction of the $1 million Standard Oil Building in San Francisco.
Hotchkin joined A. C. Swartz & Son, a Fresno architectural firm, in 1913. Shortly thereafter, the new firm of Swartz, Hotchkin and Swartz designed the exquisite Coalinga Carnegie Library, now demolished. Other early Fresno projects included the R. W. Byxbee Home on Olive Avenue, the Turnball Flats on Blackstone Avenue, the San Joaquin Bakery at San Benito and P Streets, and the A. W. Burdick Home in the Wilson Tract. Swartz, Hotchkin and Swartz also designed the Walker Ranch House at Yettem, California.
Hotchkin opened an independent office in 1915. Among his most prominent extant works in downtown Fresno are the First Church of Christ Scientist (1916) and Temple Beth Israel (1923). The striking Christian Science edifice, designed in an imposing local adaptation of the Boston Mother Church tradition, and the exotically detailed synagogue, now used as a community youth center, still front one another on Calaveras Street. In 1917, Hotchkin designed residences for Minnie Sachs on Pine Avenue and Elizabeth Hagan at Floradora and Wishon, in what would later become known as the Tower District.

Born Aug. 28, 1929 in Portland, he served in the 25th Infantry Division, known as "Tropical Lightning." He was married to Betty McFarland in 1949 for 27 years until her death in 1976. Nine years later, he was married to E.M. Terry Baxter on March 16, 1985 at New Hope Church in Portland.
In 1986, he retired from American Steel after 30 years of service. He lived in Amboy, Wash. For a time before moving to Los Molinos, Calif. in 1988 where he grew and harvested walnuts in addition to starting and operating a food and clothing ministry. In 2000, he returned to Oregon and lived in Hubbard for 7 years until moving to Woodburn last month.
He was a member of the Woodburn Foursquare Church and enjoyed numerous extended trips to Mexico where he did volunteer work for a children's refuge home operated by the Salvation Army. In addition to building, remodeling or fixing just about anything, he enjoyed woodworking and was a masterful artist/craftsman.
He is survived by his wife, E.M. Terry of Woodburn; sons, Marvin Hotchkin of Estacada, Robert Hotchkin of Gladstone; step-children, Curt Jones of Wilsonville, Jan Fox of Surprise, Ariz., Craig Jones of Bend; brother, Harold Hotchkin of Red Bluff, Calif; sister, Beverly Easter of Columbia City, Ore; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by brother, William.
A memorial service was held Oct. 19 at Woodburn Foursquare Church. Interment will be private..4,5 He was buried at Willamette National Cemetery, at Portland, Multnomah County, OR, USA.

The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Robert, 29, NY, clerk in store; Nellie, 24, keep house, NY; Dana, 4, NY, at home. All are listed as boarders in home of William Benson, 29, a grocer.. He resided at St Joseph, Berrien County, MI, USA, in 1900. He was employed in 1915 at Tacoma, Pierce County, WA, USA, as a box factory worker. He died on 10 June 1934 at Tacoma, Pierce County, WA, at age 82.5,6 He was buried at Waterville Cemetery, at Waterville, Oneida County, NY, USA. The Death Certificates of both Robert and Nellie show that they were cremated in Tacoma, WA; yet their names appear on the mounument in the Eli Hotchkin plot of Waterville Cemetery.7
At the 1880 census, the family was living in Putnam Co., Fl with William Benson. Benson was a Grocer and Robert worked in his store as a Clerk. At the 1900 Census, Robert H. says that they had three children with one living. The two children that died have not been identified. Robert's Death Certificate says that he died of a stroke and cerebral hemorrhage and Nellie died of old age and senility. Both were long-term residences of the Sands Hotel in Tacoma. Robert and Nellie were cremated at Mt View Cemetery, but the Compiler has found a gravestone for both in the Waterville NY cemetery, on the Eli Hotchkin plot.
The information on Robert's Death Certificate was supplied by his widow Nellie and gave his birth, death and parents. It says that he was the owner of a box factory in Tacoma, which he had last worked at in 1920.Their son Dana was born while the family lived in Florida.

Robert R. Hotchkin was born in May 1877 at Meadville, Crawford County, PA, USA. Date from 1900 census, age 23, born PA. Died at age 25 according to cemetery records which calculates to 1878. He was the son of Daniel Myron Hotchkin and Elsie A. Berringer. Robert R. Hotchkin lived in between 1897 and 1898 at Meadville, Crawford County, PA, USA.1 He married Florence J. Smith at Jamestown, Chautauqua County, NY, USA, on 20 October 1897. Married 2 years at the 1900 census..2 Robert R. Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1900 at Meadville, Crawford County, PA, USA. The census lists the family as: Robert R. Hotchkin, May 1877, 23, married 2 years, born PA, parents born PA, Brakeman on railroad; wife Florence, Mar 1879, 21, born PA, parents born PA, no children.. He died on 20 April 1903 at Red House, Cattaraugus County, NY, USA, at age 25. .Jamestown, N.Y., April 21.-Eight persons are dead and ten injured, three of them seriously, as the result of the collision between a passenger train and a freight train on the Erie Railroad near Red House, N.Y. Of the dead, only one, Robert Hotchkin, of Meadville, a brakeman, has been identified.

Robert S. appears in the 1927 Seattle City Directory for the first time along with his wife Helen L. He had a number of jobs during his life according to the directories. He was a machine operator in 1927; a manager of a Natural Food Co. in 1928; a Secretary to E.S. Watts and Co. in 1930, and an Insurance Agent (Equitable Life) in 1932 and 1933. In 1936 he was a salesman, and in 1940 a driver. He was listed as a salesman from 1948 to 1951. The 1953 book shows him as a draftsman at Boeing and the 1957 book has him as draftsman at the Todd Ship Yards. In 1959 he is a custodian at the Presbyterian Church, which is the last job shown prior to his death in 1965. They lived, first, at 3400 E. Marion, then 4600 W. Draves until 1939 when they moved to 3816 49th NE, and then at 2912 W. Blaine.
His obituary says that, "he came from his native Elkhart, IN in 1915. He was a draftsman at Boeing for the past five years and a member of Lafayette Lodge No. 241, F & AM. Survivors are his wife Helen, daughters, Mrs. William J. Chilcote of Bothell; Mrs. Robert C. Drake, of Great Lakes, IL; and six grandchildren."

Rodney's obituary in the Binghamton Press gives considerable information about him. It says that he lived on a farm in Chenango Forks at the time of death. He was a graduate of Binghamton Central High in 1920 and the Wharton School of Economics, Univ. of Pennsylvania. He worked many years as a Realtor and 15 years as an Industrial Engineer with Modern Design of Vestal. The Binghamton City Directories show him as a partner with his father in Hotchkin & Sons. Rodney was a life member of the Chennago Forks Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norwick. His funeral arrangements were made by Fahy Funeral Home of Norwick. At the time of his death, his son was living in Norwich, his daughter in Binghamton, his brothers in Binghamton and Los Angeles. A few years after Rodney died, his wife Mary Jane moved to Florida to live with her son. She is now in a retirement home in Vestal, NY.
