At the 1910 census he is living with Lewis J. Hotchkin and called a "brother's grandson". This might fit Robert or David as a father, but Robert died 10 months before Walter's birth if records are correct and David's wife Margaret lived after Davids death and had another marriage so why would brother Lewis have Walter.

Walter Bryant Hotchkin Col.1,2
M, (30 July 1865 - 6 June 1916)
Col. Walter Bryant Hotchkin
Walter’s birth and parents are identified in the Benjamin Cleveland Family Genealogy. Walter and Mabel Lord Hall were married by Rev. Edward Horace Cleveland at Christ Church in the borough of Manhattan on 15 Apr 1903. She was the daughter of Henry Bryan Hall and Emma Ida Lord and had not been previously married. It is possible that Walter’s first wife Mary C. Fay died by suicide as her death certificate says death by “poisoning by CO.” She was found dead at her home, 205 W. 142nd St., NYC on 26 September 1902. Walter’s death certificate says that he was in the restaurant business at the time of his death. He died at Presbyterian Hospital on 6 Jun 1916 at 8:00 pm of liver problems and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. He was member #1817, of The Sons of the Revolution, admitted in 1895. His membership was based on the Revolutionary War service of his greatgreat grandfather, Private James Pratt, 17531820, who served in Captain Charles Whitings Co., Col. S. B. Webb’s Regt. He also listed his other greatgreat grandfather, Joseph Cooke, 17351821 who was a member of the Connecticut Assembly 17791780. These references are given in the Year Book of the Sons of the Revolution of NY.
Walter was mustered into the US Army as a Major on 9 May 1898 and served in the 22nd NY Infantry. He was mustered out of the service on 23 November 1898. He reenlisted as a Captain on 5 December 1898 with the 12th NY Infantry and was mustered out on 20 Apr 1899. He served in the U S Army Reserves until 23 Dec 1914. Walter’s military service records describe him as 5 feet, 7 1/2 inches tall, fair complexion, with blue eyes and brown hair. He said that he was a stock broker.
Walter B. and his partner, Joseph H. Stoppani, were New York City stock brokers and members of the Stock Exchange. In early 1914 they were arrested on a charge of grand larceny over missing stock valued at $300,000. They filed bankruptcy and were expelled from the Exchange. Their problems were discussed often in the New York Times during the years 1914 to 1916 but fell out of the news without any final disposition of the case being reported. It is likely that his death ended the investigation. Walter and his partner Stoppani also had offices in Syracuse, NY, as they appear in the Syracuse City Directories of 1905 through 1909. In 1905 their offices were at 210 Montgomery St and later at 4 Larned Bldg. These directories say that his home was in NYC.
At the 1920 census, Mabel is living in Suffolk Co., NY with her father Harry B. Hall and her sister Florence Warner and Florence’s daughter Helen. This location must be the farm referred to in Mabel's Pension Application.3,8

He married Anna Marie Williams at Paris Twp, Oneida County, NY, on 2 December 1891.1 Walter Jerome Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1910 at Paris Twp, Oneida County, NY, USA. He lived in 1917 at Cassville, Paris Twp, Oneida County, NY, USA. Directory says that they are farmers in Hay and Corn, gives his wife as Anna M. They farm 196 acres.2 He died on 30 June 1923 at Paris Twp, Oneida County, NY, at age 55.3 He was buried at Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, at Clayville, Oneida County, NY, USA.
The 1870 census of Paris, Oneida Co., NY finds him with his parents. A guardian document on file in Oneida Co indicates that Charles P. Hotchkin is his father and guardian and that he was 7 years old on July 29th the year before the document was filed on 22 February 1875. The will of Anna Maria Hotchkin establishes her as mother of Walter J., Vol 64, Pg 155, Letters 24, 106. of Paris, NY. In his grandmothers Will he is mentioned as the son of Charles; and left $200, but a codicil dated 8 July 1891 disowns him and says that he shall receive no part of her estate. The Paris Town Clerk furnished his birth and death dates. It seems somewhat confusing that his mothers and his wife’s names are the reversal of each other.
