He married Sarah Arminda Rogers at Florida, Orange County, NY, USA, on 25 March 1868.³ He married Louisa Cornelia Seward at Florida, Orange County, NY, on 1 January 1873. Marriage date in her obituary..^1,2 He resided at Winfield, Cowley County, KS, USA, in 1885. Samuel Beriah Hotchkin died on 24 March 1922 at Winfield, Cowley County, KS, at age 78.² He was buried at Union Cemetery, at Winfield, Cowley County, KS, USA.

     Samuel married the niece of Hon William H. Seward and they settled in Kansas. In Samuel's Civil War Pension file, he says that he lived in several counties of New York, in Ohio and came to Kansas in 1882, and to Cowley County, Kansas in 1885. By these same records, we know that he was in Ohio in 1873 when his son Edwin was born and back in New York when his next two children were born. Samuel enlisted in the Civil War on 22 April 1861 at Bath, NY and was assigned as a Pvt in Co. A, 23rd NY Infantry Volunteers. He was wounded at the battle of Sharpsburg Md., in the left leg below the knee on 17 September 1862. His discharge occurred at Elmira, NY on 22 May 1863. The enlistment documents give his description as; 5 feet, 8 inches tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. He said that his occupation was Tinner and Student. He gave the name of his first wife, Sarah Rogers and the names of his two boys by that marriage, but didn't give birth or death dates of those children; only saying that they died in infancy. The file gives birth dates of the three children by his second marriage and in an answer to a 1915 inquiry by Department of the Interior; he says that only his two boys are still alive. Clara's middle name has usually been considered as Dot; while Samuel uses the name of Dorothy. Samuel gives his marriage date to his first wife as 25 March 1868 and in Louisa's Widows Application she gives a date for the first marriage as 6 March 1869. It is likely that Samuel's date is more accurate than his second wife’s. The Civil War Pension records give his birth as 7 Jul, 1843, while the 1900 census records it as July 1842.¹

     Samuel C. Hotchkin was born circa 1820 at CT, USA. He married Mary Unknown at CT.

     Probate records show that Mary the mother of James is appointed his guardian after the death of his father Samuel C. Hotchkin; probate file #5243, dated 10 My 1743. In this record James, a minor, is left 100 lbs to Mary his guardian.
     Mary may be a sister and not hs mother.

     Samuel Hotchkin Esq. was born on 4 May 1818 at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA. Passport Application. He was the son of James Hervey Hotchkin Rev. and Rebecca Hall. He married Margaret Canfield Doremus at New York City, New York County, NY, USA, on 8 July 1840. Married by Rev. A. B. Eddy.^2,3

Samuel Hotchkin Esq. appeared on the census of 1850 at Pomfret, Chautauqua County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Samuel, 31, b NY, lawyer, wife Saphrona, 31, dau Catherine, 6, living in family of Charles F. Matteson, 35. Not sure if this is the same Samuel.. He married Mary C. Gray at Elmira, Chemung County, NY, USA, circa 1857.⁵ He resided at Elmira, Chemung County, NY, in 1885. Samuel Hotchkin Esq. died on 12 February 1895 at Elmira, Chemung County, NY, at age 76.^6,7 He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, at Elmira, Chemung County, NY, USA.

     Samuel ran a prosperous business in Elmira, NY. The Prattsburg News reports him visiting his father, Rev James H. in 1885. Fredrick A. Canfield in his book on the The Canfield Families mistakenly describes Samuel as the son of Rev Beriah Hotchkin. He married Margaret Doremus of Elmira, NY in NYC. At the time of his father's death he lived in Fredonia, NY and the local newpaper referred to him as Esq. in reporting his father's death.
     The 1850 census has a Samuel Hotchkin living in Pomfrey with a wife Saphrona and a daughter Catherine. This Samuel is a lawyer and the birth dates for the wife and daughter match those of wife Margaret and daughter Caroline, so it is believed that these are the same people.
     According to a publication called Elmira Historical Pageant, Samuel built a dam across the Cheumg River in 1828 and erected a flour mill at the site.
Later he ran an unsuccessful business in NY City as Baldwin & Hotchkin.⁶

     Samuel Fitch Hotchkin Rev. was born on 2 April 1833 at Sauquoit, Oneida County, NY, USA. Birth location listed in Protestant Episcopal Church Clerical Directory 1898.¹⁰ He was the son of Beriah Bishop Hotchkin DD Rev and Elizabeth Alice Fitch. He married Sarah (Sallie) Sully Neagle at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA, USA, on 1 June 1869. Information on this marriage comes from the John Neagle family history and Marriage Records attached.. He married Helen Nicholson Roberts at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA, on 31 May 1899. They were married at the Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia.. Samuel Fitch Hotchkin Rev. appeared on the census of 1910 at Haverford, Delaware County, PA, USA. The census lists the family as: Samuel Hotchkins, 77 (1832), NY, married once, minster, father born in NY, mother in VT; wife Helen, 53, married once, no children, NY, father born in PA, mother in DE.. He died on 1 August 1912 at Bustleton, Philadelphia County, PA, USA, at age 79.^11,12 He was buried at Saint Lukes Episcopal Churchyard Cemetery, at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA, USA.

     Samuel was the Author of many volumes of books on religious matters and local history during his years in Philadelphia. A Book Reviewer of his York Road, says, "Now and then an earnest indefatigable man appears who gathers up all the facts, tradition and romance of a neighborhood and sends it down the ringing grooves of time." The titles of many of his books are listed in the footnotes. He was educated at the New Jersey Academy, Mt. Holly; and studied at Middlebury College, VT; but most of his college life was spent at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut. A sketch of his life appears in the back of his book, The Bristol Pilke. He graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in New York City and was ordained at Trinity Church, New York. For 30 years he was Rector of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Philadelphia and is buried in their courtyard. He was married twice but had no children by either marriage. His widow, Helen was residing in Feasterville, PA in 1929. At the time of his death, his obituary listed him as, "Registrar of the Diocese of Pennsylvania."      Samuel Nelson Hotchkin died in 1860 at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA.¹ He was born in 1860 at NY, USA.¹ He was the son of George Nelson Hotchkin and Elizabeth Converse Bixby. Samuel Nelson Hotchkin was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA. Sec L, Lot 68.¹

     Samuel R. Hotchkin was born circa 1871 at Florida, Orange County, NY, USA. He was the son of Samuel Beriah Hotchkin and Sarah Arminda Rogers. Samuel R. Hotchkin died circa 1872 at NY, USA.²

     Sandra was born at Jackson, Jackson County, MI, USA, on 23 September 1937. Birth date listed in Hotchkin Family Reunion Notes..¹ She was the daughter of Leo Dixon Hotchkin and Grace Gloria Brand. She married Charles J. Blattner on 16 September 1956.² Sandra was divorced from Charles J. Blattner on 14 June 1976. Sandra Carol Hotchkin died on 6 May 2013 at Onondaga, Ingham County, MI, USA, at age 75. Sandra, (Blattner), 75, of Onondaga, formerly of Concord, passed away May 6, 2013. Sandra was the daughter of Leo and Grace Hotchkin.

She married Richard "Bud" Tennant on October 21, 2003 and he survives.

Sandra retired from Comerica Bank in Jackson and Concord in the mid 1980's after over 25 years of service. After her retirement, Sandra worked at the Jackson Cracker Barrel for several years.
Sandra enjoyed sewing and taking care of her family.

Besides her husband Bud, Sandra is survived by her children: Mary Elizabeth (Jamie) Ley of Concord and John (Linda) Blattner of Litchfield; her step-children: Rebecca (Jim) Phillips of Rives Junction, Robert (Alison) Tennant of England, Daniel (Kandi) Tennant of Wyoming, Jolene Bills of Onondaga, Darr (Dana) Hoag of Rives Junction, Dorci (Mike) Franks of Eaton Rapids, Kyle (Lori) Fagan of Eaton Rapids, and Kari (Walt) Obrinski of Duck Lake; 2 grandsons: Brandon & Trevor Ley; numerous step grand children and great grandchildren; and 2 brothers: Gary and Kirk (Lisa) Hotchkin.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and her step-daughter: Jeana Rogers.

Funeral services for Sandra were held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Lauer Family Funeral Home, Concord.

Memorials in Sandra's name may be directed to the Concord United Methodist Church or the Onondaga Community Church.

Sarah (Sally) M. Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1870 at Troupsburg, Steuben County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Sarah A., 60, NY living with her sister Agnes and husband James Bouton.. She died on 19 May 1889 at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, at age 80.      Sarah Ann (Sally) Hotchkin was born on 4 February 1840 at Liberty, Sullivan County, NY, USA. She was the daughter of Joshua Francis (James) Hotchkin and Lydia Novill Grant. She married Daniel Reynolds Bonnell at Liberty, Sullivan County, NY, in 1870. The date is given in US and International Marriages 1560 -1900.. Sarah Ann (Sally) Hotchkin died on 26 December 1898 at McIntosh Corners, Liberty, Sullivan County, NY, USA, at age 58. She was buried at Fallsburg Neversink Cemetery, at Neversink, Sullivan County, NY, USA.¹

     Her gravestone and obituary give her birth as 1840, while bible records show 1839. Her death is recorded in Gertude Barber's, Index to Proceedings in Administration of Intestate Estates, page 11. Sally had a child named Minnie about 1861, by a Mr. Hodge who left the country, she then worked for Mr. Bonnell, a widower, and married him about 1870. Daniel Bonnell had seven children by his first wife, Sophia.

     Sarah Elizabeth Hotchkin was born on 3 June 1868 at Washtenaw County, MI, USA.¹ She was the daughter of Francis James Hotchkin and Anna Elizabeth Laing. Sarah died before 1870 at Washtenaw County, MI. She is not with her family at the 1870 census..

     Sarah Jane Hotchkin was born on 12 December 1844 at Lockport, Niagara County, NY, USA. She was the daughter of Thomas H. Hotchkin and Mary Ann (Molly) Brown. She married Thaddeus S. Chapel at Owosso, Shiawassee County, MI, USA, on 2 January 1872. They were married by Rev Henry Bauwell, MG and the marriage was witnessed by Ethelbert Wicking & Georgiana Court of Owosso, MI. The Marriage Certificate calls hin Theodore Chapeli..² Sarah Jane Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1920 at Mundy, Genesee County, MI, USA. The census lists the family as: Sarah Jane Hotchkin, Living with son-in-law Carol J Brewer and dau Edna J.. She died on 2 March 1933 at Mundy, Genesee County, MI, at age 88. She was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, at Grand Blanc, Genesee County, MI, USA.

     Marriage License #2-323 was issued to Theodore Chapell and Sarah J. Hotchkins, in Shiawasee Co., MI; they were married on 2 January, 1872 by the Rev Henry Bauwell, with witnesses Ethelbert Wicking and Georgiana, of Owosso, MI. Both parties gave their birthplace as New York, but at the time of their marriage, she was a resident of Ann Arbor and he of Bay City. Sarah Jane is also mention in the DAR Wolcott Records. Her marriage to Thaddeus S. Chapel is given in the Pioneer Records of Michigan, held in the Michigan State Library. The Wolcott Genealogy says that Sarah was born on 12 December 1844 in Lockport, NY, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Brown Hotchkin of Lockport, NY.^3,4

     Sarah L. Hotchkin was born on 3 August 1844 at Clayville, Oneida County, NY, USA. Birth date comes from obituary. 1900 census says Aug 1843. She was the daughter of Noah B. Hotchkin and Emeline L. Monroe. She married Henry M. Bassett at New Haven, Oswego County, NY, USA, on 4 July 1871. Married by Rev J. S. George at the Methodist Episcopal Parsonage. Married 27 years at the 1900 census. Her obituary says that she had been married 55 years..¹ Sarah L. Hotchkin died on 27 May 1921 at Cassville, Oneida County, NY, USA, at age 76. "Cassville, May 27 -- The death of Mrs. Sarah Hotchkin Bassett occurred at the home of her sister, Mrs. Menzo Tripp. Mrs. Bassett was taken sick a few days ago. Bronchial pneumonia developed and the best of care was of no avail. Mrs. Bassett was born here August 3, 1844, daughter of the late Noah Hotchkin and Emmeline Monroe. She was married to Henry Bassett 55 years ago, and had lived here her entire life. She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters and two nephews, Mrs. Mary Smith of Sauquoit, Mrs. Menzo Tripp, Walter and George Hotchkin of this place, to whom sympathy is extended."

He married Fanny Twaddell at East Branch, Delaware County, NY, USA, in 1865. Seth Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1870 at Neversink, Sullivan County, NY. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Seth, 28 (1841), NY, farmer, $00, $500; Fanny, 24, 1845, NY; Evalina, 3, 1866; Gurion ??, 1, male, NY.. He died on 5 April 1872 at Neversink, Sullivan County, NY, at age 30.² He was buried at Hodge Cemetery, at Neversink, Sullivan County, NY, USA.

     Prior to Seth's marriage to Fanny Twadell, he was a farm laborer on the farm of Robert Y. Grant. Seth and Fanny were married some time between the 1860 and 1870 census. Seth's death is recorded in Sullivan Co. records, Letter of Administration of Intestate Estates as, Seth Hotchkiss, died 5 April 1872 and the same death date is shown on his gravestone, which is located between that of brother Chester and his nephew Edwin, in the Hotchkin row of Hodge's Cemetery. A Seth Hotchkin is also listed on a Cemetery Removals for the Cannonville Reservoir in Delaware Co, NY.
