George Howard Bancroft died on 29 November 2015 at Dansville, Livingston County, NY, USA, at age 88. Ossian- George Howard Bancroft Jr. age 88, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning November 29, 2015, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
He was born in Rochester on December 27, 1926, a son of the late George Howard and Mercedes (Farrell) Bancroft Sr. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Virginia Miller, Phyllis Bancroft, Edward “Mike” Bancroft, Roy Bancroft, and a great-granddaughter, Mila Reinholtz. On August 17, 1946, he was married to Dorothy Burrus Bancroft, who survives.
George was Communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, the West Central NY Sheep and Wool Growers Association, a Past President of the National Wool Growers Association, the Con-Hocton Milk Co-Op, and the Ossian Grange. In his free time he enjoyed his team of draft horses and was a member of the WNY Draft Horse Association and was awarded NYS Teamster of the Year several times. He was a sheep farmer in the Town of Ossian for many years and a former Highway Supervisor for the Town of Ossian.
Surviving in addition to his wife Dorothy, are his children, Kathleen (John) Nagle and Nancy (John) Reinholtz, both of Dansville, Charles (Theresa) Bancroft, of Ossian, Phyllis (James) DiSalvo, of Mt. Morris, Brian (Ruth) Bancroft, and Ed (Judy) Bouffard, both of Canaseraga; siblings, Evelyn (Carl) Taylor, of Wyoming, NY, Mercedes Patt, of Hamlin and Dorothy (Harry) Butler, of Kendall, twenty grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday from 3 to 8 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Interment will be in Wood Cemetery in the Town of Ossian. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.. He was buried at Wood Cemetery, at Ossian, Livingston County, NY, USA.
