Much information is in the Civil War widows pension file of Celida A. Wright Hotchkin. On 6 Jul 1908 she filed a statement that William died on 8 Apr 1899 at Binghamton, NY and that they were married at Westford, Otsego Co., NY on 24 Dec 1868. Rev. Albert Martin, a Baptist Minister, married them at her father, Milton Wright, home. She said that neither of them had been previously married and that they had four children, all of who were now living. Celida’s brother William E. Wright confirms the information and dates in his Statement. He said that he was a boarder at the 101 Main Street family home. Elizabeth Gurney added a statement to the file saying that she had known William since he was a child and that he was a clerk in her husbands store for several years and boarded with her family. Mrs. Gurney says that Celida was brought up and lived in Westford, NY before her marriage and was a schoolteacher in the Schenevus public schools. She says that William and Celida resided in Schenevus until about 1888 when they moved to Binghamton.
At the 1900 census Celida was living in the family home at 101 Main St., Binghamton, NY with her daughter Catherine and Helen and brother Horace Wright. Lina Belle was not with them. Note that neither daughter was called by the names generally used by the family.
Her Will gives her death date and leaves $100 each to her grandsons Donald L. and Rodney B. of Binghamton and Arthur Howard of Los Angeles all children of Charles F. Hotchkin. It also leaves $100 to grandson Wildred L. Davis, son of Lina B. Davis and to Celida A. Howard daughter of Nellie L. Howard. Kate M. Hotchkin was given $2,000. The premises at 28 Winding Road was left equally to children Kate, Lina and Charles.
