ONEONTA — Charles Norman Tremper, 85, of Oneonta, formerly of Maryland, died at his home on Monday, April 10, 2006.
Born Oct. 19, 1920, in Liberty, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Ruth A. (Hotchkin) Tremper.
Mr. Tremper served in the United States Army during W.W.II, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the W.W.II Victory Medal. During that time he married Jean Beaulieu Tremper in Oneonta on Jan. 20, 1946. He worked more than 25 years for Reinhardt Home Heating as the service manager, until he opened Tremper’s Real Estate, which he and his wife ran together until retirement in 1987.
Charles was an active member and usher of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Kiwanis Club and AARP. He served on the Otsego County Board of Realtors and was active with the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed league bowling, fishing with his grandchildren, dining out, traveling to Florida, and playing cards and backgammon with family and friends. He also loved baseball and listening to country music.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Constance (Connie) Lee Schiliro of Portsmouth, R.I. and Sharon Marie Rumenapp of Oneonta; his grandchildren, David Rumenapp, Christian and his wife, Melissa Rumenapp, Marc and his wife, Jamie Schiliro, and Karyn Schiliro; his great-grandchildren, Madisyn Mello, Haley Rumenapp and Samantha Rose Schiliro, his sister, Mildred Whipple of New Berlin and a sister-in-law, Doris Gallagher of Oneonta.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean B. Tremper, in 2003, his brother, Nelson and his sister, Ruth.
Family will receive friends at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 14.
A funeral service will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Clemow of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ name to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
Arrangements are being handled by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Her family moved to the Pittsfield, Otsego County, N. Y. area where she was married on January 21, 1934 to William R. Miller. They had four children: Howard W., Richard A., Barbara M. and Joyce. She and Bill later moved to Port Crane where he died on January 20, 1972. She decided to move back to the New Berlin area and lived with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roy (Gertrude) Miller. In 1973 she began working as a nurse’s aide in the new Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin. There she met Herbert Whipple and married him on December 6, 1975 in South Edmeston, N.Y.
During her first marriage she lived in the Ball School House in the Ketchum area of Pittsfield Township. There she attended, and was active in the affairs of the Ketchum Church. Later, when she returned to New Berlin, she attended, and was active in the South Edmeston Community Church.
In the later years of her life, and with her health failing, she returned to Chase Nursing Home as a resident.
Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Tuesday November 13th, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP, in New Berlin with Pastor Barry Davis of the Burlington Green Baptist Church officiating..
