He died on 29 April 1923 at Lawrence, Nuckolls County, NE, USA, at age 80. William Albert Reddinger (sic) was born in Ashland county (sic), Ohio, July 29, 1842, and died at his home in Lawrence, Nebraska, April 29, 1923, at the age of 80 years and 9 months. He lived in Ohio until reaching the age of 23, when he moved to Adair county (sic), Mo. and in the year 1868 was married to Mary Carnegy. To this union were born seven children, two of whom are deceased, George dying in infancy, and Lucinda B. on February 3rd, 1919 (sic). The children surviving are Mrs. Stella Oatman, Ainsworth, Nebr; Mrs. Addie Jay, Cotton, Ark; Charles F. of Superior; and William and Joseph of Lawrence. Deceased was the last old soldier residing in Lawrence and in his death there is removed the last member of Chester A. Arthur Post, G.A.R. once an active patriotic organization that formed a most pleasant part of the village life here. Mr. Reddinger (sic) enlisted in Co. K 35th Reg. Iowa Infantry, August 11, 1862, as a private and served three years, being honorably discharged on August 7, 1865. After his discharge from the army he returned to Ohio for one year, going from there to Adair county (sic), Mo., where he lived about three years, when he moved to Harrison county (sic), locating there about the same length of time. Then he made his move to Nebraska where he resided in or near Lawrence for the most part, the balance of his life. Some over two years ago, deceased moved to Lincoln, Mo., returning to his old home here last fall. Mr. Reddinger (sic) was one of the old-time citizens here, whose life was a part of the community life for many years. Always even-tempered, pleasant and kind in word and manner he was universally respected by everybody. The funeral services in charge of Rev. L.K. McNeil, were held Tuesday afternoon. A short service was conducted at the home, thence going to the church where many old neighbors gathered for the final service. On account of ill health, Mrs. Reddinger (sic) was not able to accompany the funeral party from the home.

The census lists the family as: John Reeves, 58, born England, farmer; Hannah, 41, born NY; Wm J., 22, born NY; Charlotte M., 16, born NY; Elizabeth, 14, born NY.. He married Mary Ann Hotchkin at Newark Valley, Tioga County, NY, on 27 February 1868. He was the house percussionist at Bimbo's in San Francisco and also played with the Ringling Brothers Circus.
In 2001, he moved to Grants Pass from Rancho Cordova to be near his family.
He enjoyed big band jazz, Scottish music, writing Scottish drum music and teaching music. He also enjoyed the circus, and when he was a child, he built a circus in his back yard.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Bea Ryan of Grants Pass; two sons, Jim Knox of San Diego and Skip Newberry of Neu-Ulm, Germany; a brother, Guenther Hofen of Carmichael, Calif; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
