A pulley from a broken cable struck and killed Chauncey V. LaRue, 52, in the gravel pit at the Columbia Concrete Pipe Co. this morning.

The pulley struck him on the head and he died on the way to the hospital.

He was born in the west in Three Forks, Mont., in 1888, where he grew up. He lived in Oregon and in Lewiston, Id, where he married Mrs. Eva Mae Anderson 12 years ago. They came to Wenatchee in 1929.

Surviving are his wife: four stepsons, Kenneth, Ray, John and Bob Anderson of Wenatchee; two brothers, Ben and Luther LaRue of Potlatch, Idaho; and two sisters in Montana.

He had worked for the Columbia Concrete company for six years and was in charge of the gravel pit. He was a member of No. 204 Fraternal Order Eagles. The body is at the Hennessy Mortuary.

     Berrien Co. Vitals as copied by LDS give her marriage to Willie S. Hotchkin on 1 January 1882 both of Benton Harbor, MI., she was age 21. The marriage records call her Rosa L. She is also listed in the LDS, IGI, where her last name is given as Loson. After locating the original records it also seem to look like Loson. According to the marriage application, both lived in Benton Harbor, he was born in Niagara Co., NY and she in Genesee Co, MI. He was age 21 and she age 19. A gravestone exists in the Matthew- Lason plots of Morton Hill Cemetery, Benton Harbor, MI with a grave for Maroa L. Hotchkin, while the cemetery lists call her Marva L. Hotchkin. Both the gravestone and the cemetery lists give birth and death dates of 1862--1894. Accordingt to the 1850 census, her grandmother was also named Meroa.

     The Morton Hill cemetery has a grave for Lorinda, saying wife of Oscar D. Lason, Co. K, 10th Mich. It is not clear whether Oscar is also buried here. The grave is with that of Hattie Matthews and Maroa Hotchkin. The main stone says Lason, Matthews and Hotchkin. These stone are adjacent to the Vincent family.
     Oscar and his family are listed in the 1870 Census of Atlas, Genesee Co MI and the 1880 Census of Benton Harbor, Berrien Co MI. In the 1870 Census Mroa is called Maria and in the 1880 she is called Mroa. In an 1892 Benton Harbor Directory, he is listed as a fruit grower.
His middle name was found in the MI /death /record of daughter Hattie Mathews.
