Career opportunities and advancement relocated Clyde to the Memphis area. Always one interested in higher education, he completed management courses at Hillsdale College. He also studied Business Law from Cornell University. At retirement, Clyde returned to Jackson with his beloved wife of more than forty years, Christine Scott Cooksey. Christine passed away in June of 2011.
Clyde was an avid golfer, you could always find him on the green enjoying his favorite sport among his friends.
With a witty sense of humor and helpful attitude, Clyde Cooksey always tried to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He was grateful for his much-loved family, his ever supportive, caring church family at the First Baptist Church of Jackson, and his dear friends.
On Saturday, April 8, 2017, we will gather to celebrate a beloved father, uncle, relative, and friend; to lovingly reflect upon fond memories of a life well lived. Clyde will be honored with a military graveside service. Visitation will begin at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. officiated by Bro. Dan Bruce. Committal services will follow with military honors in Ridgecrest Cemetery. All friends and family are invited to attend.
Mr. Cooksey is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Adagio of Downy, CA; two stepsons, Rusty Edwards of Cordova, TN and Steve Jeffcoat of Carksville, AR; and one stepdaughter, Joy Edwards of Nashville, TN as well as four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Virginia Mae Ness, 90, of Billings passed away at St. Vincent Healthcare on March 9, 2017. Her husband, Elwin, was waiting for her with a big hug and a kiss. She was born the daughter of Mae and Robert Cornell on July 18, 1926 in Billings.
Virginia met the love of her life, Elwin Ness, when she was 10 years old and he was 11. They married in Billings on Sept. 14, 1946. They were married for 68 years when Elwin passed away in July of 2015. Virginia and Elwin had three sons Robert, DeWayne and Gregory.
Virginia worked at Sears, managed Sage Towers and Rose Park Apartments before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed square-dancing, bowling, playing cards, baking and family dinners. She also enjoyed being the “cook” at the hunting camp with her “boys” and at the “Police Cabin” on the Stillwater outside of Absarokee. She was known for her chocolate cake with fudge frosting and homemade chicken and noodles. She also enjoyed watching her grandkids participate in sporting events. Most of all, her greatest joy was being with family and friends.
Virginia is survived by her sons DeWayne (Cindy) Ness and Gregory Ness; grandchildren Rochelle Ness, Jeremy Ness, Tamera (Rich)Walter, Chad (Anita) Ness, Allan (Sara) Ness and David (Holly) Ness; six great- grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister Sharon Mai; many nieces and nephews; and her “animals” Chelsea and Miss Priss.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Elwin Ness; parents Mae and Robert Cornell; her eldest son Robert Ness; sister Jean Bornes; and brother Robert Cornell Jr.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tom James and the nurses at St. Vincent Healthcare who kept her comfortable during her final hours.
