     Anna H. Spencer was born on 26 July 1771 at CT, USA. She was the daughter of Phineas Spencer and Anna Elizabeth Holland. Anna H. Spencer died on 15 October 1776 at CT at age 5.

     Audra Spencer was born on 6 December 1837 at Sutton, Monteregie Region, Quebec, Canada. She married Garrett S Safford, son of Jabez Ensworth Safford and Mary Sixby, at NY, USA.¹ Audra Spencer died on 5 June 1919 at age 81.      Talma says that Miss Spencer was a relative of Electa Reynolds.¹

     Charles H. Spencer was born on 13 August 1851 at Smithfield, Madison County, NY, USA. Age 7 at the 1860 census and 17 at the 1870 census. He was the son of Henry L. Spencer and Julia A. Unknown. Charles H. Spencer died on 9 January 1917 at Winona, Winona County, WI, USA, at age 65. He was buried in 1918 at St Marys Cemetery, at Winona, Winona County, WI, USA.

     Cornelia Spencer was born in 1847 at Smithfield, Madison County, NY, USA. Age 13 at the 1860 census and not with the family at the 1870 census. She was the daughter of Henry L. Spencer and Julia A. Unknown. Cornelia Spencer died on 15 February 1862 at Smithfield, Madison County, NY. She was buried at Davis Corners Cemetery, at Peterboro, Madison County, NY, USA.

     Cornelia was born at NY, USA, in August 1839. Date according to 1900 census.. She was the daughter of Henry T. Spencer and Aminda Dibble. She married William A. Hotchkin at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA, on 10 December 1873. US Presbyterian Church Records, 1701- 1970.

Hartter, apr 1875, 25, m 3yrs., b Ger; wife Georgia A., Oct 1875, 24, 1 ch, 1 living, b NY; son Elmer W., Mar 1898, 2, b NY; mother in law, Cornelia Hotchkin, Aug 1839, 60, Wd, b NY.. She died on 6 October 1902 at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA, at age 63.²

     The 1900 Census of Rochester has Cornelia Hotchkin, age 60, born August 1839 and living at #5 Bloss St with her daughter Georgia A and husband Wm. Hartter. Cornelia's age at this census doesn't agree with that given at her marriage and is 12 years greater than that of her husband.
     Cornelia starts to appear in the Rochester City Directories in 1896 as the widow of William A. Hotchkin. At this first directory she lives at 191 Frank St, the next volume has her at 38 Warner,in 1898 she lives at 252 Lyell St, and next at 5 Bloss St, and then at 28 Warner,and then the 1903-04 volume shows her death on 6 October 1902 at age 49. The 1905-6 directory has a notation that Cornelia Hotchkin has removed to Sodus Point, NY; so the Compiler may be tracing two different Cornelia Hotchkin's.

     Elizabeth (Betsey) Spencer was born in 1815 at NY, USA. She was the daughter of James Spencer and Eunice Smith. Elizabeth (Betsey) Spencer died in 1865 at Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, MI, USA. She was buried at Rosehill Cemetery, at Eaton Rapids, Eaton County, MI, USA.

     Elizabeth Edna Spencer was born on 24 January 1774 at CT, USA. She was the daughter of Phineas Spencer and Anna Elizabeth Holland. Elizabeth Edna Spencer died on 26 February 1860 at CT at age 86.

     She may be Edna and not Elizabeth.

The census lists the family as: Henry Spencer, age 26, born NY; Julia, age 24, born NY; Cornelia, age 3, born NY; Joseph, 3/12, born NY. Joseph listed as a male must be Josephine. Henry's family is living with his father Jacob, age 67 and Anna, age 71 who is belived to be Jacob's wife.. He died in 1869 at Madison County, NY, USA. He is not with Julia and the children at the 1870 census. Will was advertised July 9 1872 and entered into Probate on 21 Dec 1869 in Madison Co., NY.. He was buried at Morrisville Rural Cemetery, at Morrisville, Madison County, NY, USA.

     Henry T. Spencer was born in 1809 at Westbrook, Middlesex County, CT, USA. He married Aminda Dibble on 13 January 1833 at Saybrook, Middlesex County, CT, USA. Henry T. Spencer appeared on the census of 1850 at Greece, Monroe County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: H. T. Spencer, 41, Landlord (likely a hotel or bar as he has a bar tender in home), born CT; Amanda, 38, born CT; Sarah A., 16, born CT; Cornelia A, 10, born NY; Alfred, 1, born NY.. He died on 12 May 1882 at Webster, Monroe County, NY, USA. Date is Will Probate Date.

     Ida Mae Spencer was born on 3 March 1878 at NY, USA. Age 2 at the 1880 census of Webster, NY.¹ She was the daughter of Alfred B. Spencer and Mary Ann Hotchkin. Ida Mae Spencer married Charles Henry Hadden circa 1897 at Webster, Monroe County, NY, USA. Married 3 years at the 1900 census of Webster, NY.. Ida Mae Spencer died on 11 August 1954 at Webster, Monroe County, NY, at age 76. Likely a burial date..¹ She was buried at Webster Rural Cemetery, at Webster, Monroe County, NY, USA.

     Jacob Spencer was born on 14 July 1782 at Columbia, Herkimer County, NY, USA. Age 77,born NY at the 1860 census Smithfield, Madison, NY, living with son Henry, age 77 (1783). At the 1850 census of Smithfield he is age 67 (1783) and has Anna, born MA, age 71 (1779).¹ He was the son of Phineas Spencer and Anna Elizabeth Holland. Jacob Spencer married Lydia Anna Howe on 1 January 1811 at NY, USA. Jacob Spencer appeared on the census of 1850 at Smithfield, Madison County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Jacob Spencer, 67, farmer, born NY; Anna, 71, keep house, born MA; Sally, 35, born NY, Idiotic; Henry, 26, born NY; Julia, 24, born NY; Cornelia, 3, born NY; Joseph, 3/12, born NY.. He died on 26 July 1859 at Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, NY, USA, at age 77. He was buried at Davis Corners Cemetery, at Peterboro, Madison County, NY, USA.

     There is very little proof on this family. All information comes from the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Smithfield, NY. An internet posting give Lydia Howe, born 1794 in CT as his wife. A search of CT birth records has a Lydia Ann Howe, born 1797 in CT recorded in the AGBI Index and Lydia Howe, born 24 May 1784 in Plymouth, CT recorded in Barbour Records.

     James Spencer was born on 4 March 1785 at NH, USA. He married Eunice Smith, daughter of Curtis Smith and Mary Williams, circa 1810 at NY, USA. James Spencer died on 12 December 1847 at Wilson, Niagara County, NY, USA, at age 62. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, at Wilson, Niagara County, NY, USA.

     James' presence in Greenwood Cemetery is known only through a note on the lot diagram for Section D, Lot 3, in the Greenwood Cemetery Interment Book.

Section D, Lot 3, was originally purchased by Aaron O Spencer, the son of James and Eunice (Smith) Spencer. In 1906 the unoccupied South 24 feet of the lot were sold to Benjamin E Wilson by Aaron's heirs-at-law. The first marker from the North on the lot is broken, with all of the information missing. Family of Benjamin Wilson state that the marker has been broken as long as they can remember. The second marker from the South is that of Mary H "Minnie" (Roberts) Spencer, wife of Emery Edwin or Edwin Emery Spencer, Aaron's son. The reading of this section of Greenwood Cemetery that was completed in 1988 counted Minnie's marker as the first from the North in this row.

In addition to the fact that no other James Spencer's in this family have been found to date, there is other evidence indicating that this James is Eunice's husband and Aaron's father. The 1850 US census shows Eunice Spencer as a widow living with her son, Aaron, in USA, NY, Niagara, Wilson, strongly suggesting that her husband died before 1850. The census further shows that Eunice was born in USA, VT, about 1793. The Find-a-Grave Memorial for Eunice (Smith) Spencer, indicates that she was born in USA, VT, in Mar 1792, and died in USA, MI, on 20 Sep 1855. Her marker indicates that she was the wife of James Spencer.

James' death pre-dates the opening of Greenwood Cemetery. Therefore, he had to have been buried elsewhere and then moved to Greenwood. Aaron's receipt for Section D, Lot 3, shows that he purchased the lot on 7 Dec 1864. Therefore James was undoubtedly moved after that date.

The New York Death Index, 1880-1956, indicates that Aaron's son, Emery or Edwin, died on 16 Jan 1899 in USA, NY, Niagara, Wilson, and Aaron died on 13 Dec 1902 in USA, NY, Niagara, East Wilson. It is clear that, although Aaron owned this lot in Greenwood Cemetery, neither he nor his son were buried there. To date, the burial places for Aaron, his wife Henrietta (Cruso?) Spencer, his son Emery or Edwin, and other family members have not been located. If you have information about where this family is buried, please contact the manager of this memorial. Thank you!

     Lydia D. Spencer was born on 12 August 1795 at Columbia, Herkimer County, NY, USA. Age 54 at the 1850 census and 64 at the 1860 census. She was the daughter of Phineas Spencer and Anna Elizabeth Holland. Lydia D. Spencer married Samuel Buffington Chase on 15 May 1823 at Worcester, Otsego County, NY, USA. Lydia D. Spencer died on 25 July 1865 at Maryland, Otsego County, NY, USA, at age 69. She was buried at Schenevus Cemetery, at Schenevus, Otsego County, NY, USA.

     Mary (Polly) Spencer was born on 22 August 1776 at CT, USA.^1,2 She was the daughter of Phineas Spencer and Anna Elizabeth Holland. She married Samuel Hodgkin at Maryland, Otsego County, NY, USA, on 20 January 1804.^3,1,2 Mary (Polly) Spencer died on 28 September 1806 at Maryland, Otsego County, NY, at age 30.¹

     Ashley Hotchkin's book, A Concise History of the Town of Maryland, says that his father's marriage to Mary (Polly) Spencer, in January 1804, was the first recorded marriage in the Town of Maryland.⁴

     Mary Ann Spencer was born circa 1836 at Quebec, Canada. She married Cyrus Thomas, son of Amasa Thomas and Sarah Lewis, in 1861 at NY, USA.¹ Mary Ann Spencer died on 6 September 1905 at Sutton, Brome Missisquoi Region, Quebec, Canada. She was buried at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, at Abercorn, Monteregie Region, Quebec, Canada.

     Phineas Spencer was born on 14 July 1746 at Haddam, Middlesex County, CT, USA.² He married Anna Elizabeth Holland at CT, USA, on 8 September 1773.³ Phineas Spencer died on 24 January 1817 at Otego, Otsego County, NY, USA, at age 70.

     Roslin (Reuben) Spencer was born in 1814 at NY, USA.¹ He was the son of James Spencer and Eunice Smith. Roslin (Reuben) Spencer died on 25 September 1882 at Hamlin, Eaton County, MI, USA.¹

     His wife Catherine is buried in Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, MI along with Rubens mother Eunice.
