Mary Williams
F, (10 June 1765 - July 1878)
Signature of Mary Smith from her Revolutionary War Widow's Pension Files
After his death she stayed in Clarkson about 2 more years; then about one year in Caledonia, NY. Then she lived in Wilson, NY for about 15 months. (This would be with her daughter Eunice Spencer) until September 1844 when she moved to Jackson, MI. She married Curtis Smith at Leicester, Addison County, VT, USA, in April 1786. In another Rev War Widows Pension letter she changes the date to April 1787. They lived in Whiting, VT but she says that they were married in Lusesta, possibily she means Leicester, Addison County, VT. The writing is very unclear and the Compiler can not find such a town as Lusesta. They were married by John Smith, Curtis's brother, a Justice of the Peace.
In a letter to the Pension Board on 22 Feb 1844 she says that she had 15 children of which 7 were alive, she belived at that time. No children were named in this letter. In a 14 June 1820 leter, her husband Curtis Smith, in applying for the Veterans Pension said that his wife was 53 years old and he had 4 children living at home. He named Amasa Smith, age 18, Alvah Smith, age 12 and Electa Smith age 10. He also said that he had a disabled son Shepard Smith, aged 34 at home. Shepard was disabled from having Rickets and could not walk. The Compiler beleived that Shepard is a son from Cutis's first marriage to an unknown woman who died when the children were young.
They were married by Curtis's brother John Smith a Justice of the Peace.
In another letter to the Pension Board late in life, when she lived in Jackson, MI, Mary gives the date as 10 Jun 1766 in Whitney, Rutland County, VT.. Mary Williams died in July 1878 at Jackson, Jackson County, MI, USA, at age 113. Date according to her Rev.War Widows Pension file..
Mary, in a 22 Feb 1844, pension statement said that she had 15 children by Curtis and believed 7 were still living. She lists the many places where they lived as about 3 years in Whitney, 5 or 6 years in Lake George, Stoneham, Addison County, VT for 2 or 3 years, Crown Point, NY for 7 years, Caledonia, NY for 5 Years, then to Clarkson, Genesee Co., NY for 19 years before Curtis' deatn. After his death she moved to Caledonia for 1 year, Then Wilson, Niagara Co., NY where she lived until Sept. 1844 when she moved to Jackson, MI.
