The Compiler corresponded with Betty in 1990. She wrote a letter, dated 3 August 1990 saying that her first husband had been dead almost 25 years and that she had remarried Eugene J. Conroy. At this time, she lived in Short Hills, NJ.
At the 1930 census Betty Beggs is living with an uncle, Frederick Beggs, age 54.

Oliver Smith's 8th Regt of the CT Line, during the Revolutionary War. Served from May 8 to Dec 18 1775.. He appeared on the census of 1790 at Hebron, Washington County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Thomas Bellows, 2 white males include head of families 16 and up, 4 white males under 16, 4 white females include head of families.. He died on 19 October 1833 at Seneca Falls, Seneca County, NY, USA, at age 80. Mr. Beltz was born April 21, 1933 in Newman Grove, Neb., to August and Cordulla (Huebner-Pose) Beltz.
He moved to Kansas City by age 4. He also lived in Sugar Creek before moving to Independence, where he lived for 44 years.
He attended Fairmount Grade School and Northeast High School. He retired from Armco Steel Inc., in October, 1993, after 42 years of service. Arland served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954.
He was a volunteer for The Boy Scouts of America, where he touched many Boy Scouts' lives. Arland's accomplishments include Troop Committee Chairman, Troop Campmaster District Training Staff, District Roundtable Staff, District Camporee and Klondike Derby Staff, Keeper of the Wampum in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, District Award of Merit, Distinguished Commissioner Award, Commissioner's Key and Arrowhead Award, Wood Badge Trained, Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow, and the Silver Beaver Award.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association of America. He was a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
He is survived by his wife, Elva of the home. He is also survived by his sons, Terry of Berryville, Ark., Shelby of Lampe, Mo., James Hamm and wife Diane of Omaha, Neb., and John Hamm and wife Mary of Independence; a daughter, Patricia of Aterbury, Kan; 18 grandchildren, including Anna, Rachel, Thomas, Aaron and Scott; 11 great-grandchildren including Katie, Tyler, Billy and Alyssa; brothers Ormonde and wife Carolyn of Ft. Scott, Kan., Myron and wife Leta of Independence; sisters LaVaughn Hotchkin of Independence, and Verna Belle Richardson and husband Gene of Independence.
Arland was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lewellen "Johnny" and a son, James "Marty."

He attended Fairmount Grade School and Northeast High School. He retired from Armco Steel Inc., in October, 1993, after 42 years of service. Arland served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954.
He was a volunteer for The Boy Scouts of America, where he touched many Boy Scouts' lives. Arland's accomplishments include Troop Committee Chairman, Troop Campmaster District Training Staff, District Roundtable Staff, District Camporee and Klondike Derby Staff, Keeper of the Wampum in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, District Award of Merit, Distinguished Commissioner Award, Commissioner's Key and Arrowhead Award, Wood Badge Trained, Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow, and the Silver Beaver Award.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association of America. He was a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
He is survived by his wife, Elva of the home. He is also survived by his sons, Terry of Berryville, Ark., Shelby of Lampe, Mo., James Hamm and wife Diane of Omaha, Neb., and John Hamm and wife Mary of Independence; a daughter, Patricia of Aterbury, Kan; 18 grandchildren, including Anna, Rachel, Thomas, Aaron and Scott; 11 great-grandchildren including Katie, Tyler, Billy and Alyssa; brothers Ormonde and wife Carolyn of Ft. Scott, Kan., Myron and wife Leta of Independence; sisters LaVaughn Hotchkin of Independence, and Verna Belle Richardson and husband Gene of Independence.
Arland was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lewellen "Johnny" and a son, James "Marty."
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, March 29 at the chapel, where a Mic-O-Say service will be at 8 p.m.

Arland "Abie" Beltz, 70, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Beltz was born April 21, 1933 in Newman Grove, Neb., to August and Cordulla (Huebner-Pose) Beltz.
He moved to Kansas City by age 4. He also lived in Sugar Creek before moving to Independence, where he lived for 44 years.
