Well Known Former Ridge Farmer Succumbs

Ransomville Sept 26 - Bert J Fellows, 85, well known former North Ridge truck farmer for many years, died yesterday at the Lockport City hospital. For the last six years Mr. Fellows had been making his home with a daughter, Mrs. Walter Scheitheir, at Lockport.

Besides Mrs. Scheitheir, Mr. Fellows is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. Warren Swick, this village, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the Swick home in West Main street. The Rev. James Wilson will officiate. Interment will be in North Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Fellows was born in the Town of Newfane and had lived in Niagara county all his life. His wife, the late Carrie Hotchkin Fellows, died 18 years ago..³ He was buried at North Ridge Cemetery, at Ransomville, Niagara County, NY, USA.

     The 1910 Census of Cambria, Niagara Co., NY has Burt and his wife Carrie with their four daughters. The census says that they had been married only once and for 18 years; had five children of which four were living.

Lockport - Mrs. Gladys A. Scheitheir of 195 Saxton St. died today (Jan. 20, 1968) at Lockport Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

The 73-year-old woman was a native of the Town of Newfane and was born Jan. 1, 1895, the daughter of Bert and Carrie Hotchkin Felllows.

The widow of Walter A. Scheitheir who died on April 19, 1958, she was a resident of Lockport for 45 years. She was a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John (Naomi) Sawicz; Mrs. Mcrton (Thelma) Demmin, and Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Stamp, all of Lockport; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Swick of Wilson, five grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, and several nieces awl nephews.

Beginning Sunday at 2 p.m.. friends may call at the Lange Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Robert Rowsam will officiate

A pretty home wedding took place Saturday afternoon, December 20, at one o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert J Fellows of North Ridge, when their daughter. Jessie Naomi, was united in marriage to Mr, Rudolph Scheitheir, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Scheitheir of Tonawanda. The bride was gowned in white crepe de chine and carried an arm bouquet of white flowers. She was attended by her sister, Miss Gladys Fellows, who was gowned in pink crepe de chine and carried pink and white flowers. Mr. Walter Scheitheir of Tonawanda attended his brother as best man. Following the ceremony, dinner was served with covers for twenty at the bride's table After a short wedding journey, Mr and Mrs. Scheitheir will| be at home at 72 Bristol avenue. Lockport.. Jessie Naomi Fellows died in October 1929 at Niagara County, NY, USA, at age 30. We can identify Jessie Fellows Scheitheir"s death date rather closely from the following known facts. From local newspaper articles we know that Jessie was still of Lockport when she visited her parents on April 9-10, 1929. On 8 Apr 1930, the 1930 Census shows Jessie's 6 month old daughter Shirley Scheitheir as a granddaughter, age 6/12, (born Oct- Nov 1929) in the household of Bert and Carrie Fellows. Also we know that at the 1930 census, Rudolph was in Buffalo, NY, listed as single. Following Carrie Hotchkin Fellows death on 27 Sep 1931, her obit named her two surviving daughters Gladys Scheitheir and Mildred Swick, along with Rudolph Scheitheir as a surviving son-in-law, and claimed 4 grandchildren. For Rudolph to have still been named a son-in-law, it seems his listing of single in 1930 should have been widowed, as if Jessie and Rudolph had divorced, it would have been quite odd to still have been listed as Carrie's son-in-law in 1931.

Apparently deceased before her mother's death in 1931, absent from the 1930 census where her own daughter was with her parents, good odds place her death between Oct 1929 and 8 Apr 1930. The one known event that could have caused her death is childbirth, which would place her death as Oct-Nov 1929.
I am going to place her burial in the North Ridge Cemetery until we can confirm exactly where she is buried.

I think that there is a problem with this entry as I find a marriage of Elizaberh Mary Ferguson to a Mr Deruyter in 1881.
