Clyde Webb Cooksey

Clyde Webb Cooksey, age 91 of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Jackson Meadows.

Born and raised in Jackson, TN, Clyde was a veteran of WWII. As a dedicated soldier, he was proud to serve his country on the Pacific Front for the United States Marines. Clyde Cooksey was the young Corporal who climbed the famous flag pole and removed the white surrender flag during the hard-fought battle of Iwo Jima.

Career opportunities and advancement relocated Clyde to the Memphis area. Always one interested in higher education, he completed management courses at Hillsdale College. He also studied Business Law from Cornell University. At retirement, Clyde returned to Jackson with his beloved wife of more than forty years, Christine Scott Cooksey. Christine passed away in June of 2011.

Clyde was an avid golfer, you could always find him on the green enjoying his favorite sport among his friends.

With a witty sense of humor and helpful attitude, Clyde Cooksey always tried to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He was grateful for his much-loved family, his ever supportive, caring church family at the First Baptist Church of Jackson, and his dear friends.

On Saturday, April 8, 2017, we will gather to celebrate a beloved father, uncle, relative, and friend; to lovingly reflect upon fond memories of a life well lived. Clyde will be honored with a military graveside service. Visitation will begin at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. officiated by Bro. Dan Bruce.
