Smith and Col. Elmore (Conn. Regt.); April 1777 to 15 Jun1779 as a Corporal under Capt. David Smith and Col. Chandler (8th Conn. Reg.). All enlistments were at Waterbury, CT. Ezekiel fought in the battles of Germantown and Monmouth (The battle at Monmouth Court House, NJ, in 1778, was the last major battle in the North during the Revolution and took place in the spring following the winter spent at Valley Forge, PA). burial, and the funeral services were
conducted from the residence of Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Ross yesterday morning
at 10:30 o'clock Rev. S. Johnson
of the Princeton Congregational
church officiated and interment was in
Oak Knoll cemetery.

Gilbert L. Sanford was born in Alle-
gany county, New York, 83 years ago.
He grew to manhood in the east,
and was there married to Miss Melinda
Whitney. During the year of 1857 he
came to Minnesota,accompanied by his
wife, and located on a farm two and
a half miles west of this village. He
resided here about 25 years, when he
returned to the east, his wife having
died. Mr. Sanford remarried in the
east, and remained there until four
years ago, when his second wife pass-
ed away. Since that time he had made
his home with his son-in-law and
daughter in Minneapolis.

Deceased will be favorably remem-
bered by the older citizens of Prince-
ton, as he was possessed of qualities
that won him the friendship and good
will of all who formed his acquaint-
ance. He is survived by three broth-
ers, Saul S., and Reed E., of Princeton,
and Van R., of Fairview, California,
and one daughter, Mrs. Belle McCar-
riel of Minneapolis.
