He served in Capt. Bezeliel Bristol's Company of Connecticut militia at the Alarm at East Haven on July 5, 1779. One of his nephews, Giles, served as a substitute for him during part of his Revolutionary War service..

Ebenezer Parmelee

     Ebenezer Parmelee was born on 22 November 1690 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, USA. He was the son of Isaac Parmelee and Elizabeth Hiland. Ebenezer Parmelee married Anna Cruttenden on 24 July 1716 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT. Ebenezer Parmelee died on 17 September 1777 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, at age 86.
"Ebenezer was a boatbuilder, clockmaker and mechanic. He lived at the Hyland House in Guilford, making improvements on it that survive to this day. He was also one of the first Colonial clockmakers, making several timepieces for churches, including one for Guilford's Congregational Church. That clock now is on display in the attic of the Rev. Henry Whitfield's Stone House. West Parish church records show he was named collector Dec. 15, 1719, and again on Dec. 22, 1724. The Guilford selectmen gave him permission Dec. 15. 1741, to build a wharf 'at the common landing place' with his own money, providing he let the public use it. Records of Christ Episcopal Church show that he was paid for work on the church on Jan. 2, 1746. And on Dec. 20, 1748, a motion was made for Ebenezer to install a window in the north side of the Meeting House over the canopy of the pulpit." She married Thomas Hodgkins at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, on 4 June 1758. They were married at the 4th Congregational Church..2,3 Elizabeth Parmelee died on 14 December 1787 at Madison, New Haven County, CT, USA, at age 46.4,5 She was buried at Hammonassett Cemetery, at Madison, New Haven County, CT, USA. Cemetery inscription says " The Body of Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Hodgkin who died December 14th 1787, aged 46..5

     According to Geoffrey Brown, a 1972 letter to the Hotchkiss Family Association from Catherine McHenry Rogers, identifies a second wife of Thomas, one Eunice Rose. No documentation for this marriage was provided in the letter; however, Elizabeth's death at age 45 and the fact that Thomas is not buried with her, suggests that a second wife is very possible. Mrs. Rogers said that she was a descendant of Thomas' son Ambrose. Based on this information, it is possible that the last three children, Ambrose, Eunice, and Thomas should be listed under a second marriage to Rose. However, in that case we must have Elizabeth's death in error.6,7

West Bloomfield, N. Y. - Mr. Isaac L. Parmele, an aged and highly respected citizen of this place, the father of Mr. H. T. Parmele of Canandaigua, died very suddenly Thursday night. A few moments before his death, he passed out of the house into the yard. While standing there, he was observed to fall, and on being taken into the house, lived but a few minutes. His age was 86 years and 7 months.

Isaac Parmele was born in Connecticut in 1799 and moved to Ontario county, New York, with his parents Reuben and Sally (Crittenden) Parmelee. The family settled on a farm where Isaac and five other siblings were raised. As of 1893, the old homestead farm was still in the possession of a descendant of the family. Isaac has always lived in West Bloomfield, where he died in 1886. He married Laura, the daughter of Ebenezer Leach and had six children.. He was buried at Pioneer Cemetery, at West Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY, USA.
