The census lists the family as: Orin Smith, age 63, 1796, Farmer, born NY; wife Rebecca, age 62, 1797, born NJ; Sarah, age 30,born NY; Lydia A., age 21, born NY; James H., age 18, born NY; Franklin, age 10, born NY.. He died on 12 September 1882 at Ossian, Livingston County, NY, at age 86. Alive and living with son at the 1880 census. Called Oran in the cemetery records. Death date from gravestone. Died at age 84.. He was buried at Ossian Center Cemetery, at Ossian, Livingston County, NY, USA.

     The Compiler never knew that his cousins name was Robert. We always called him Jim or James. It is possible that the proper name is James Robert, but his father was also called James or Jim and his proper name is Edgar James.
Robert James Smith died on 3 January 2008 at Dansville, Ingham County, MI, USA, at age 89.1 He was buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery, at Holly, Oakland County, MI, USA.

     William Carl Smith was born on 15 March 1915 at MI, USA. He was the son of Edgar Almiron Smith and Catherine Rosena Witherell. William Carl Smith married Bertha Eunice Coley, daughter of John Benjamin Coley and Edna Flora Kriner, on 9 April 1943 at Savannah, Chatham County, GA, USA. Married at Savannah Gospel Chapel by Rev. Ibitson.. William died on 16 May 1984 at Savannah, Chatham County, GA, at age 69.1,2 He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, at Savannah, Chatham County, GA, USA.

     William (Billy) was an adopted son who was adopted very young. His daughter Cathy says that his mother was Margaret Kupkray or Kopkaw, who worked for the Smith's on the farm. She fell in love with a boy who also worked on the farm and had Billy.
     He made a career of Army service, which he joined early in World War II. He served in WWII, the Korean Conflict, 3 tours in Vietnam, Libya and England. In the US he was stationed in Long Island, NY, Savannah, GA, San Antonio, TX, Amarillo, TX, and Abilene, TX. During WWII he was an early member of the Air Force and served with a SAC unit; later he worked on crash boats at Long Island. After retirement in 1967 he and his wife and youngest child James moved to Savannah, GA where he supervised an E. R. until a back injury forced him to retire about 1875.
     His wife Eunice ran a custom cake and catering business in Savannah after Billy retired.

He was married, wife not given, Enlisted 6 Aug 1862 at Ossian, Livingston County, NY. Mustered in 2 Sept 1862 as a Corpt.
Note says died at the Hospital at Mount Pleasant, buried at Washington, DC. He was the son of Oran (Orin)) Smith and Rebecca Thomas. William H. Smith married Catherine Decker circa 1849 at NY, USA. William H. Smith appeared on the census of 1860 at Ossian, Livingston County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: William Smith, 24, born NY, $200; Catherine, 27, born NY.
The 1850 census says that William was born in Canada.. He died on 1 January 1863 at Washington, District of Columbia, USA, at age 25. Died at Mount Pleasant Hospital. He was buried at US Soldiers and Airmen's Home National Cemetery, at Washington, District of Columbia, USA. Memorial #35809786.
