     Elizabeth Merriam was born on 13 July 1741 at Wallingford, New Haven County, CT, USA. She was the daughter of Samuel Merriam and Elizabeth Perkins. She married William Hendrick at Wallingford, New Haven County, CT, on 2 April 1761.¹ Elizabeth Merriam died on 17 September 1806 at age 65.

     Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Merrian and Elizabeth Perkins. It is believed that Elizabeth had a first marriage to a man with surname Clark.

     Samuel Merriam was born on 20 May 1716 at Lynn, Essex County, MA, USA. He married Elizabeth Perkins at Wallingford, New Haven County, CT, USA, on 21 March 1739. Samuel Merriam died on 16 September 1783 at Cheshire, New Haven County, CT, USA, at age 67. He was buried at Hillside Cemetery, at Cheshire, New Haven County, CT, USA.

     Alice E. Merritt was born on 28 February 1863 at Seneca Falls, Seneca County, NY, USA. Birth date from New York Passenger Lists 1820 to 1957. and Passport application. She was the daughter of Richard Fish Merritt and Anna Augusta Slauson. She married George Augustus Hotchkin at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA, on 17 December 1885.² Alice E. Merritt lived in 1905 at Rochester, Monroe County, NY. At the 1905 NY State Census, Alice Hotchkin, age 42 born about 1863 in USA is living with her mother Augusta A. Merritt, who is age 72, born about 1833 un USA. She appeared on the census of 1920 at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Alice M., age 56, widow, living with servant Rose A. Murray, age 30, b NY.. Ebenezer Slauson (1730-1821), commanded the first company of minute men of Westchester County, New York, 1776, and promoted major in the same regiment. He was born in Connecticut; died in Westerlo, N. Y.


Alice appears in the 1903-04 Rochester City Directory as the widow of George A. Hotchkin and living at 24 Calumet. The 1906 directory show her occupation as Superintendant of the Lunch Room at East High School, a position that she held through the 1914-15 directory. Directories are available for the years 1937 through 1939 and she is still listed, without an occupation and living at 55 Meigs.
     The New York Passenger Lists 1820- 1957 show Alice M. Hotchkin, born 28 Feb 1863, making several trips to England and Europe. during 1923 and 1924.¹

     In reviewing the parents of Richard Fish Merriett the Compiler does not find good evidence that he has the correct parents.

     Donald F. Metz was born on 5 August 1924 at NY, USA. He married Jean Louise Hotchkin, daughter of Everett Willis Hotchkin and Ruth Isabelle Thompson, in 1945 at Scarsdale, Westchester County, NY, USA. Donald F. Metz died on 28 February 2007 at FL, USA, at age 82. He was buried at Florida National Cemetery, at Bushnell, Sumter County, FL, USA.

     Christian Johann Metzger was born on 20 August 1834 at Germany. Age 22 at the 1860 census Muhlenburg, OH. Birth date was 1834 according to MI Death Index. He married Dorothea Marquadt circa 1860. Christian Johann Metzger died on 6 November 1880 at Lima, Washtenaw County, MI, USA, at age 46.¹ He was buried at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, at Scio, Washtenaw County, MI, USA.      Katherine R. Metzger was born on 19 August 1865 at Germany. She was the daughter of Christian Johann Metzger and Dorothea Marquadt. She married Jacob (Jack) Maurer at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, USA, on 16 November 1884.¹ She married Ernest Hotchkin at Saline, Washtenaw County, MI, USA, on 15 May 1908. Katherine R. Metzger lived in 1915 at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI. The 1915 Polk's Directory shows Katherine as the widow of Ernest living at 823 Berkshire Rd. She died on 1 March 1934 at Pittsfield, Washtenaw County, MI, USA, at age 68.² She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, at Saline, Washtenaw County, MI, USA.

     The 1910 census of Washtenaw Co., MI shows Katherine with her husband Ernest Hotchkin and one non-relative. She is buried next to her husband in Blk A-5 City Cemetery, Saline, MI. The cemetery records give her maiden surname. Her marriage to Ernest Hotchkin is recorded in Vol 8, pg 174, 1908 in Washtenaw Co., Mi. His name is listed as Hotchkiss. Her parents were Christian Metzgar and Doretha ?. She had been married once before to Maurer. Her death records show her birth as 19 August 1865, at age 67-8-19 and that she had resided at 901 Berkshire Rd., Pittsfield Twp., Washtenaw Co., MI for 50 years. She was buried in Saline. Her Will identified children as Louise Shumaker of Copemish, MI, age 48; Rudolph Mauer, of 901 Berkshire, Ann Arbor, age 46; and Oswald Maurer, of Port Orchard, WA, age 45.

     Charlotte June Meyer was born on 30 October 1923 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA.¹ She married Albert Ernest Anians, son of James Anians (Onions) and Agnes Elizabeth Poulter, on 14 February 1948 at Cook County, IL, USA. Charlotte June Meyer died on 1 September 1990 at Oak Forest, Cook County, IL, USA, at age 66.¹

     Daughter of Carl Ludwig Meyer and Bozena (Bessie) Marie Vitek.

     Dion Ross Meyer married Lois Sue Edwards, daughter of Grady Cornelius Edwards and Annie Kate Williams, on 31 January 1982 at Montgomery, Montgomery County, AL, USA.

     Sandra Lynn Meyer is the daughter of Dion Ross Meyer and Lois Sue Edwards.

Mrs. Frances A. Hotchkin, widow of the late James H. Hotchkin died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert J. Fellows. North Ridge, Sunday, February 20, 1921. Aged 84 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John Richards of Buffalo; Mrs. Bert J. Fellows of North Ridge, N. Y.: one son. .James W. Hotchkin of Newfane. N. Y. also ten grand children and 3 great grand children.
Funeral services will be held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert J. Fellows, Tuesday afternoon, February 22, at, 2:30 o'clock. Interment In North Ridge cemetery.

     Betsey Miles was born in 1799 at Coventry, Chenango County, NY, USA. She was the daughter of Burrage Miles and Elizabeth Yale. Betsey Miles died on 10 August 1882 at Coventry, Chenango County, NY. She was buried at Coventryville Cemetery, at Coventryville, Chenango County, NY, USA.

     Burrage Miles was born on 5 November 1766 at Wallingford, New Haven County, CT, USA. He married Elizabeth Yale at New Haven, New Haven County, CT, USA, before 1790.¹ Burrage Miles died on 12 September 1848 at Chenango County, NY, USA, at age 81. He was buried at Coventryville Cemetery, at Coventryville, Chenango County, NY, USA.

     He arrived in Coventry, New York in 1789 from New Haven, Connecticut and took up 200 acres comprising the whole site of Coventryville. Having kept a hotel in Connecticut, his native place, he erected a frame house in which he kept a hotel. In 1811 he built a hotel which he kept until his death in 1848.
     A story is told of Burrage which is repeated here from the 'History of the Town of Coventry.' The log hut which became Burrage's dwelling when he first came into the county, was the log house already built by Royal Wilkins, but no door as yet had been hung and a heavy blanket was kept to supply the place. A blazing fire on the hearth was expected to burn all night to frighten away the wild animals. With loaded gun at his pillow, Miles slept the first night in his unfinished hut. In the late hours of the night, a panther stuck his head through the blanket and gave a fierce howl. The sleeper sprang from his bed and seizing his gun, found the fire had gone out. He could perceive only the fiery eyeballs of the wild animal and his unerring gun dealt death to the intruding brute."
