Asa Leete

M, (21 July 1726 - 9 January 1799)
     Asa Leete was born on 21 July 1726 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, USA.1,2 He was the son of Benjamin Leete I and Rachel Champion. Asa Leete died on 9 January 1799 at Claremont, Sullivan County, NH, USA, at age 72. He was buried at Union Cemetery, at Claremont, Sullivan County, NH, USA. Age 72 years
He was one of the first settlers, coming from Guilford, Conn., about 1767. He was a descendant of William Leete of Connecticut, governor of the colony from 1676 to 1683, and of the fourth generation. He was ancestor of the family in Claremont bearing his name, the orthography of which is Leete, Leet or Leat.

Benjamin Leete I1

     Benjamin Leete I was born on 26 December 1686 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, USA.2,3 He was the son of John Leete V and Mary Chittenden. He married Rachel Champion at Lyme, New London County, CT, USA, on 26 October 1714.2,3 Benjamin Leete I died in 1741 at Durham, Middlesex County, CT, USA.2 He was buried at Old Durham Cemetery, at Durham, Middlesex County, CT, USA.

     Rachel Champion and Benjamin Leete were married October 26 1714, Guilford, Connecticut. They had eleven known children: Rachel, Benjamin Jr., Susannah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Tamar, Asa, Temperence, Levi, Sarah, and Leah.

In the early 1730s, the family moved from Guilford to Durham, Connecticut. Benjamin died in 1746.

On March 22, 1750, Branford, Connecticut, Rachel married Samuel Betts. Not much is known about Samuel other than his marriage to Rachel.

This is the death of Adalbert Henry Leete listed in San Francusci Area, California, Funeral Home Records, 1850 to 1931. It gives a birth of 1847 in NY and death 11 Dec 1905 in Sacremento. No parents or other information is listed to confirm that we are seeing Henry A. Leete information..

     He moved to California after the death of his wife, Ruth Nichols Grover in December 1840. Funeral home records say that he is buried in Sacremento but does not give the Cemetery name.

Her maiden surname was Leete; she and John were second cousins. They had eleven known children: John, Lydia, Amy, Lois, Eber, Olive, Mina, Omit (No. 1), Omit (No. 2), Harvey, and Eli]. He was buried at Smithfield Cemetery, at Smithfield, Dutchess County, NY, USA.

Pelatiah Leete

M, (26 March 1681 - 13 October 1768)
     Pelatiah Leete was born on 26 March 1681 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, USA.1 He was the son of John Leete V and Mary Chittenden. Pelatiah Leete married Abigail Fowler on 1 July 1705 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT. Pelatiah Leete died on 13 October 1768 at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, at age 87. He was called Deacon Pelatiah Leete. After marriage they moved from Guilford to Leete's Island, 3 miles away, which was established by his grandfather Gov. William Leete but upon which no one had yet lived. Pelatiah took the portion of land that had been assigned to his father, John.

Pelatiah was a large landholder and farmer. He kept 100 head of cattle and typically averaged 100 bushel of shelled corn per acre. He was a deacon in the Fourth Church of Guilford. He was often elected to represent the town in the General Court of the Colony.

He and his wife were married 1 July 1705. They lived together 63 years. Abigail died during a terrible epidemic that swept through Guilford taking 44 lives, including 7 Leetes, including 3 of her grandchildren (sons of her son Pelatiah) and her dau-in-law Rhoda (wife of Daniel).

Pelatiah and Abigail had five known children:

Mehitabel II.1 He was buried at Leetes Island Cemetery, at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, USA.
