He was the son of Samuel Granville and Mary Barter. George F. Granville married Mary M. Unknown. George F. Granville was a Pri, andserved in Co B, 12 Regt Michigan Infantry, during the Civil War. Mustered out of service at Camden, AR on 9 September 1865. He appeared on the census of 1870 at Benton Twp, Berrien County, MI, USA. The census lists the family as: George Granville, 30, farmer ,born ME; Clara, 28, born IL; Emily, 2, born MI; Mary, 68, born ME.. He married Clarinda (Clara) Frances Willett, daughter of Edward Willett and Mary Jane Stout, on 6 January 1870 at Benton Harbor, Berrien County, MI, USA. Married 30 years at the 1900 census..1 George F. Granville died on 15 July 1902 at Berrien County, MI, USA, at age 62. MI Deaths and Burials 1867- 1995 gives date as 6 Jul 1902. MI Deaths 1897- 1920 gives date as 15 Jul 1902..2 He was buried at Morton Hill Cemetery, at Benton Harbor, Berrien County, MI, USA. A gravestone also has a Samuel buried here..

Steven C. Gray

     Steven C. Gray was born on 5 March 1846 at Elmira, Chemung County, NY, USA. Age 6 at the 1850 census of Elmira, Chemung, NY. He was the son of Hiram Gray and Aurelia Covell. Steven C. Gray died on 26 April 1897 at NJ, USA, at age 51. US Congressman, Jurist. Elected as a Democrat to represent New York's 22nd District in the Twenty-fifth Congress, he served from March 4, 1837 to March 3, 1839. An 1821 graduate of Union College, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1823 and set up practice in Elmira, New York. During his single term in Congress he was a member of the Committee on Claims; this was his only major venture into politics. In 1846, New York Governor Silas Wright appointed Gray Circuit Judge and Vice Chancellor for the state's Sixth Judicial District, and the following year he won the first of three terms as Justice of the New York Supreme Court, serving until 1860. His last public office was as Commissioner of Appeals (1870 to 1875). Gray maintained his Elmira law practice well into his 80s.
